I’ve done a couple reviews of Charlotte Tilbury lipstick formulas here and here, so I’ll mainly be updating with swatches. Normally matte lipsticks can be super drying and you have to be careful as they can sometimes emphasize any dry or cracked areas on your lips. Well first off, this lipstick is the most gorgeous nude pink shade that enhances the natural shade of the lips. I don’t understand the hype around Charlotte Tilbury quads, all the swatches I’ve seen have been pretty underwhelming.

So today I’m excited to share my honest Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipstick Review and lipstick swatches of both the original and medium pillow talk lipsticks on fair skin. Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Revolution Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium pink with warmer undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had medium, buildable color coverage--up to mostly opaque--with a velvety, smooth, and thin consistency that clung a bit to lips, though not in an uncomfortable, drying kind of way. I just felt like it had a tendency to emphasize my lip lines a bit as some color pulled into them. Pillow Talk Dreams #4 is a deep brown with subtle, warm red undertones and a matte finish. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

It was really a nude on me, so I’m glad to see new shades that will work for anyone with a deeper skin tone. I swatched all the new products in store, and I loved the Pillow Talk Medium shade the best, plus I like the Matte Revolution formula slightly better than the K.I.S.S.I.N.G. formula. I get compliments on this look all the time, but it does require using a darker shade from another palette to achieve. Christine, your review is basically on par with the lone 1 star review I left on the Charlotte Tilbury. That glitter shade is useless and was gone within an hour. I gave slightly lower marks but it was colored by my immense disappointment (as this was my first palette from the brand) and the insane price point for such a mediocre product.

It’s a semi-miss for me, mainly because the color is a bit too deep for my skin tone as a highlighter. On my skin it pulls very copper, very warm and a bit too dramatic. It would probably work better on someone with very tan to deep skin tone. I think the colors are stunning as an eyeshadow palette. Pillow Talk Dreams #3 is a medium copper with warm, rosy undertones and a sparkly finish. It had a slightly emollient feel, which made it feel firmer in the pan, but it wasn’t stiff to pick up or to blend out, though there was light fallout. It had mostly opaque, buildable color payoff that lasted well for eight hours before fading and had light fallout over time. Pillow Talk Dreams #1 is a light-medium, rosy copper with warm undertones and a bright, metallic sheen. The eyeshadow had a smooth, almost cream-like texture that was finely-milled and dense without being thick.
I also wanted to see for myself if the Pillow Talk lipsticks are really worth it or not. If you’ve followed me for anytime, you know I’m normally a drugstore lipstick kinda gal. After years and years of hearing how amazing Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lipsticks are, I finally did it. It’s quite a monochrome colour story here, with deeper and richer shades. The quality is there, but personally I am not really a fan. The shades are pretty similar to each other and lots that are already in the market.
Not for me – the finished look would be “eye irritation” because it’s all so pink. But then “drier” and “dustier” gave me negative flashback memories of Bobbi Brown’s Antique Rose that I tried to make work and eventually pitched. So I am holding out to see how it feels when I can swatch in store, and I’ll check out the dupes also.
Her kits are a great way to go to try multiple products at a lower price. Honestly, I wear Pillow Talk regularly and use it many times to create swatches for this blog, and I still have a long ways to go to even finish the mini size I got a couple years ago. Minis always last so much longer than you think possible. Plus, the mini is much lighter weight and more compact in size for carrying in your purse. Pillow Talk is one of the first Charlotte Tilbury shades I acquired in a holiday kit of three mini lipsticks.
